The books in this section are books which take the reader inward. They are often still fast-paced, with inspired, imaginative territories to take the reader away, but deeper meaning often also runs parallel to the action. These are books which will run broad and deliberate in experience which the reader will have to evaluate in order to understand. Black and white views and simple answers to things will be challenged. These books will help the reader to look at the full complexity of real life.

Readers will discover through these books that strength and learning often come through adversity and pain. The books themselves will often deal with tougher issues in order to accomplish this task. Themes are more mature and challenging.

This level is the final launching pad for children who are on the edge of adult choices, decisions and responsibilities. By pulling these readers inward and getting them to explore themselves and their world, they will be exploring who they will be as people, and tackling some of the issues before they are forced to deal with them in real life.
